The “MATADERO” Project in Madrid illustrates the development of a design proposal for a live-work environment in an old slaughterhouse, which recently was renovated into a cultural centre. The objective of the project is to act as vehicle for innovative architectural expression as well as sustainable environmental design.

Architectural innovation was to be explored by siting, building form, internal layout and by element design and detailing. Environmental design was to provide adaptive opportunities for thermal and visual comfort by passive means without recourse to non-renewable sources.
