Mixed Use: residential and offices

London

UK

2010

with S.Bhatla, K.Hoogenboom & F.Serrano

As part of a larger scheme located in Central London –straddling between Liverpool Street and Brick Lane-, this mixed used building was developed following passive environmental strategies as well as urban parameters. It was developed following a single volume configuration with a predominant south orientation, containing units ranging from studio lofts to 2-storey, 3 bedroom ones.

The overall shape of the building followed a scaled pattern derived from the stipulation that no neighboring structures shall be overshadowed on Dec 21st. Also, the building was located atop a derelict train station which had been turned into a “goodsyard”, hence the name. Shoreditch overground station is located on the adjacent lot towards the north, which made noise control an important parameter as well.
